When you get down to the Goldstar ST40s, you get ceramic pickups & those nasty trapezoid tuners - so there's a real reason to avoid these, especially as they don't seem to sell for much less than the 50s.Ĭlick to expand.Aha! Well, that might mean it's one of the earliest of the Goldstars. Once again though - no real difference apart from the purchase price when new. Yet I have a Lake Placid Blue Goldstar that has a 50 neck stamp, yet it really should be an ST55. But, as far as I know, Tokai's version of Lake Placid Blue was never a standard ST50 colour. A 55 is supposed to be simply a custom colour version of a 50. Of course, if it was sunburst, it might have been that the third part of the 3 piece body was hidden under the black paint on the top edge.īut the bottom line is - 50 or 60? It really makes virtually no difference. If something has a two piece body it's more likely that it's a 60, though nothing is ever definite with Tokais. ![]() Hmmm, it seems as though we're taking the word of one collector against the general consensus.
